Born in Samsun in 1953.

Graduated from Haydarpasa High School in 1971, from Merchant Marine Academy in 1975 and from the Norwegian Maritime Academy in 1983.

Gucuyener worked as first mate and captain on dry cargo and bulk cargo ships and on Suezmax, VLCC, ULCC and product tankers of various tonnages belonging to the companies Deniz Nakliyat T.A.Ş. (TCL), Sonmez Shipping and Cerrahogullari Shipping.

He was in the position of general manager at Geden Lines over the period 1988-1992 and at Endo Shipping in the period 1992-1998.

In the period 1998-1999, joining in a founding partnership in Daruma Corporate Finance, he continued to work in corporate finance, maritime financing and Eximbank financing.

In May 2000, Gucuyener started working as general manager at Deniz Nakliyat T.A.Ş. (TCL) after which, in the interim 2003-2005, he took on the duties of marketing and mediation in the financing, purchasing and selling of ships for the Medfin Company, a financial consulting and mediation company in Istanbul.

Over the period February 2005- March 2008 he worked on his second term as General Manager of Deniz Nakliyat T.A.Ş. (TCL).

As from March 2009, Gucuyener continues to serve as General Manager of the company.
